Only one day later than in 2018, the infamous Grouse Grind trail reopens on Friday, May 3rd for the 2018 Spring and Summer season. Gates open for early bird hikers at 6:15 am. Those attempting to hike the Grind in the afternoon have until 6:30 pm before the gate closes.

The Grouse Grind is Metro Vancouver's world famous test of endurance. Uniquely, the Grind is also one of a few trails with a restaurant at the peak and a gondola for the return trip. Hike for the work out, then stay for the view and a drink.

At 2.9 kilometers in length with an average incline over 30°, the trail is consistantly uphill and unrelenting with a mix of wood steps and steep rock ledges. The average hiker takes an hour to an hour and a half to complete.

In August 2010, twenty-three year old Sebastian Salas broke the record for the fastest Grind time at 23:48 at the annual Grouse Grind Mountain Run. Only four years later, The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport reported that Salas accepted a two-year sanction from competing in Canadian sports for two years due to an anti-doping rule violation.
