In support of Metro Vancouver's Climate Action Plan, nearly 16 hectares added to Minnekhada Park for future development of trails and scenic viewpoints.

Metro Vancouver has acquired a 15.9-hectare parcel added to Minnekhada Regional Park is in the northeastern, upland portion of the park, filling a gap between the regional park and the Pitt Addington Marsh Wildlife Area.

According to Metro Vancouver's media release, significant portions of the new area overlook the Minnekhada Marsh and present opportunities for the future development of additional trails and scenic viewpoints that would complement and expand Minnekhada Regional Park's existing 10-kilometer network of trails.

"I am pleased we are making great progress toward our vision of a vibrant, interconnected network of parks and greenways throughout Metro Vancouver," said Sav Dhaliwal, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors.

The acquisition of land at Minnekhada is in addition to recent efforts by Metro Vancouver to expand public access to Widgeon Marsh located only a few kilometers north along Pitt River. During last summer, Metro Vancouver gathered public input and released several concepts for the future development of Widgeon Marsh. Concepts included a viewing tower, additional trails, boat landing and a picnic area.
